Portsmouth will be looking to get back to winning ways in the league as they host Charlton Athletic at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth have struggled in recent times. They are now four games without a win in the league and have now slipped eight points outside the play-offs. Last weekend, they were beaten 1-0 by Sunderland and were poor.

They were pressed well by the Black Cats, making it difficult for Pompey to impose their usual game, and even if it wasn’t reflected in the scoreline, it was fairly comfortable for the hosts. Reeco Hackett-Fairchild has been filling in at left wing-back and he’s not defensively solid enough to play there in the long run.

Therefore, Portsmouth’s signing of Denver Hume from Sunderland is key and he will likely be pushing for a debut here. Ollie Webber is set for a spot amongst the substitutes after signing from Crystal Palace.

The form of Marcus Harness has started to fall away, while they have strikers that are struggling for goals, with Tyler Walker as of yet failing to make his mark. It must keep Danny Cowley awake at night knowing he’s sent John Marquis and Ellis Harrison out and both are scoring.

Charlton haven’t been in great form themselves, having only just ended a four-match run without a win. They beat Fleetwood 2-0 thanks to goals from Mason Burstow and Albie Morgan. Chuks Aneke has shown to be a dominant striker and an important replacement for Jayden Stockley.

It was back to their defensive best for Charlton, with Ryan Inniss dominating and Sean Clare being back in at right centre-back as an overlapping option going forward very much in Sheffield United style. They also had Craig MacGillivray back between the sticks. Charlton have signed young midfielder Nile John on-loan as Charlie Kirk, who struggled for the Addicks, was sent out to Championship side Blackpool.

Prediction: Portsmouth 0-2 Charlton Athletic
Young Charlton striker Mason Burstow has recently been great in front of goal, giving them some added fire power. He has recently scored 3 goals in his last 4 games and taken his chance while Conor Washington and Jayden Stockley were out injured.

One to Watch: Mason Burstow – Charlton will inflict more misery on The Cowley’s Brother’s and Portsmouth. They will win on their travels in front of the Sky cameras, emerging as 2-0 victors.
