’16 Off To A Winner

Pompey started 2016 in the best possible way bouncing back from a festive hangover with a convincing 3-0 win against mid-table Crawley Town at Fratton Park yesterday.

Matthew Clarke and Marc McNulty put the Blues’ ahead in a first half which they threatened to run riot.

Crawley Town came into the game more in the second half without really troubling the Pompey goal, but the game was sealed when a superb counter-attack from Ben Tollitt was finished by Gary Roberts.

Post-match, Paul Cook told the club website:

“The lads have worked ever so hard over Christmas and probably not got the results we felt we deserved.

So we’ve got to give them a pat on the back and say well done for that display and the result.”

Before kick-off, respects were shown to former Pompey and Newcastle United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek who sadly died recently at the age of 47.

A busy week ahead for Pompey as they prepare for the trip to Ipswich Town in the FA Cup 3rd round on Saturday 9th.

Pompey have sold their complete allocation of 2,500 tickets, but to help fans looking to sell or buy spares at face value only or less, we have created a dedicated Twitter account which you can follow @TicketsPompey.

With the winter transfer window now open, Matthew Clarke and Marc McNulty are expected to have their loan extensions to the end of the season officially confirmed, whilst Caolan Lavery future will also be clarified.

One loanee definitely not remaining at Pompey is Jayden Stockley who has returned to parent club, AFC Bournemouth.
