Pompey have confirmed the signing of midfielder Gareth Evans on a one-year deal.
A former Manchester United youth player from Macclesfield, Evans joined Fleetwood on a free transfer from Rotherham United in January 2013. He made 93 League appearances for Fleetwood, scoring 10 goals.
Evans has since featured in Pompey’s pre-season friendlies capturing the eye of Paul Cook, and fans alike.
Evans did have a few other offers from the league above but decided to turn them down to come and train with Pompey. Speaking to the club website, he said:
“I’m delighted to have put pen to paper and now I’ve got to knuckle down and concentrate on playing well.
It’s worked out well because I already know everyone and I’m just looking forward to the start of the season.
The aim is promotion – it’s as simple as that. It’s an honour to be at this club, but I’ve come here for success and I’m confident we are capable of that.”
