Pompey welcome Joey Barton’s Bristol Rovers to Fratton Park on Saturday.
After two successive draws to open the season, two wins on the bounce at Cheltenham Town and at home against Cambridge United midweek, have sparked an air of positivity amongst Blues fans.
It’s very early days, but a win against the Gas could see Pompey go top of the table after 5 played.
Rovers arrive on the South Coast with 2 wins and 2 defeats so far. Forest Green took all three points with a 2-1 win in the opening match, before back-to back wins at Burton (0-4) and at home to Oxford United (1-0) were followed by a 3-0 setback at Barnsley on Tuesday.
Joey Barton is looking to “get back on the horse as quickly as possible at one of the hardest places in the division to respond.”
Former Pompey striker John Marquis has started in all four Rovers matches so far, scoring the once in the win against Oxford United.
For Pompey, Danny Cowley could name an unchanged side, favouring Colby Bishop and Dane Scarlett up front.
Competition for places is strong with Denver Hume, Joe Morrell and Clark Robertson all available having trained all week following injury, although they may well have to be content with a place on the subs bench.
Pompey are unbeaten at home since January and will be looking to continue the fine start to the season.
