Danny Cowley: “We now have Jack Whatmough coming back as well and that gives me a selection headache – and I haven’t had enough of them since I’ve been here.” Paul Downing was MOTM at AFC Wimbledon in Danny Cowley’s eyes. You’d think Downing and Raggett would continue, along with Johnson and Brown at the back against Accrington next Sunday.
Pompey XI’s friendly with Brentford B scheduled for Tuesday has now been postponed.
Pompey v Accrington has been selected for live Sky Sports coverage next Sunday. 12 midday KO. This means it won’t be screened on iFollow.
Blues’ zombie season handed thrilling late lease of life by pivotal victory – Neil Allen’s Portsmouth News match report
Well done to Lee Brown and Ronan Curtis who make the Football League Paper Sky Bet League One Team of the Day. The PompeyNewsNow PompeyMOTM Twitter poll will be up on Tuesday. Who’d be on your shortlist? Those two for starters, Marcus Harness and Paul Downing look like claiming the last two slots.
Danny Cowley: “I am pleased for him (Lee Brown) with his two goals but for me, head shoulders, man of the match was Paul Downing. I thought he was exceptional and a model professional. I am so pleased for him because he hasn’t had it easy for a long while now and he was obviously out of the previous manager’s plans.” You can read every word Pompey’s Head Coach said on the AFC Wimbledon win, Lee Brown, Paul Downing and Ronan Curtis on the Hampshire Live website here.
Highlights of today’s 3-1 win at AFC Wimbledon
Lee Brown: “We’re not in the play-offs yet and everyone knows we now need to get another win against Accrington. But scoring two goals is obviously a nice feeling for me. It’s not about that, though – it’s about a win for Portsmouth Football Club.”
Danny Cowley: “It’s going to be an exciting week now and I’m so pleased for our supporters. They can spend the bank holiday with their family and friends and look forward to a big game.”
Danny Cowley: “We’ve been saying it since the moment I arrived – we’re not dying wondering. We’re going to give this absolutely everything we have got. We are going to leave next Sunday with absolutely no regrets whatsoever.”

Pompey in orange – like, loathe or don’t care? We’re in the loathe category for what’s it worth.
As scores stand, Pompey 4 points clear of Oxford and Charlton. A Lincoln win against the Addicks on Tuesday would secure the Blues play-offs place. Failing that, a Blues win next Sunday against Accrington sorts it.

Match day! So how we feeling then! Bank holiday weekend, blue skies, a few beers and a bbq are the plan whilst watching Pompey romp to victory at AFC Wimbledon! Ok, if not quite that, will take a scruffy late winner to seal the points!
As John Marquis said this week “We’ve got two games and hopefully another two and a final. So just empty the tank, leave it all out there and see what happens.”
Exactly that, let’s see eh. What we thinking FT score? 2-1 win for Pompey – Raggett and Marquis.
