Brett Pitman and Conor McAleney have both been backed for the League One Golden Boot after scoring braces in their clubs’ 2-0 wins on the opening day of the 2017/18 season.
Brett Pitman shot himself to the top of the market with two goals for Pompey in their opening match against Rochdale at Fratton Park. The 29-year-old striker was 14/1 before kick-off but he saw his odds cut to 8/1 best price, one firm slashing him to as short as 6/1. Pitman accounts for 25% of bets placed on the market since yesterday.
Fleetwood secured a comfortable 2-goal victory over Rotherham and since 3pm yesterday, the ex-Everton youngster McAleney has accounted for 32% of bets through Oddschecker and his odds have been cut from 25/1 to 14/1. One bookie is currently standing firm at 25/1 but it’s doubtful that will be on offer much longer.
Oddschecker spokesman, Teague Calvin “Keen footy punters were scouring the markets this weekend looking to steal the early value, and a brace for each striker in two goal victories for their clubs was enough to see over half of bets placed on the pair. Bookies reacted in kind by halving the prices of the Fleetwood and Pompey hitmen.”
