Pompey Academy 2-3 Cheltenham

Pompey Academy slipped to their seventh FL Alliance SW defeat this season as they went down 3-2 to Cheltenham at Furze Lane.

Pompey had the better share of possession in the first-half with the gale force wind at their backs and  could have been 2 up early on with Theo Widdrington and Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain both hitting the bar.

The Cheltenham goalkeeper was kept busy without the Blues’ managing to find a breakthrough.  The pick of his saves coming from Tommy Scutt’s fine effort:

Cheltenham took the lead early in the 2nd-half but Pompey hit back with goals from  Jez Bedford and Calvin Davies.

Mistakes allowed the visitors to grab the 3-2 win with the Blues’ misery completed late on as Eddie Wakley was sent off for a second yellow card.

Pompey Academy are next in action in the FL Alliance SW when they make the long trip to Plymouth on Saturday (28th).

Meanwhile, they will face Manchester City in the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup at Fratton Park on Tuesday 15th December with a 7pm KO.
